Steam Demo Walkthrough & Tested Tips
The free Invokyr Demo (Steam App ID 4704030) provides a hands-on preview of the core cooperative survival loop before the 8 October 2026 Early Access release.
Unlike theoretical guides, every strategy documented here is verified directly from in-game testing in the public demo build.
1. The Central Hub: Board Table Setup
When spawning into a run:
- Your squad begins in the central manor chamber surrounding the physical 1970s board game table. Review our Beginner’s Survival Guide for complete foundational mechanics.
- The board displays a linear track with pieces representing the party’s progress toward the escape chamber.
- No player spawns with an unlimited supply of dice. Advancing requires physically departing the main room into the unmapped mansion to forage for them.
- Check that your hardware meets the Demo System Requirements for stable frame rates during intensive room transitions.
2. Scavenging Single-Use Dice (Tested Loop)
During exploratory sweeps through adjacent corridors:
- Inspect Furniture & Shelves: Dice spawn as physical interactive objects on desks, inside display cases, and across floor corners.
- Single-Use Consumption: Once a player carries a standard die back to the central table and rolls it, that die is permanently consumed from your inventory.
- Designate Runners & Lookouts: In 3- to 4-player squads, assign two players to explore adjoining rooms while one teammate remains near the board to receive dice and monitor the main hall.
3. Managing Board Rolls & Summoned Hazards
Interacting with the board table triggers the core tension of the game:
- Audio & Visual Alerts: Rolling the dice triggers noticeable sound cues and environmental flickers throughout the manor.
- Entity Incursions: Certain roll outcomes provoke immediate creature spawns or lock adjoining doors, forcing players in distant wings to find alternative paths back. Consult our Monsters & Entities Guide for confirmed details on the Gamemaster.
- Roll Pacing: Never roll when teammates are separated deep in unlit sectors. Always verify that all squad members have a clear path back to safety before initiating a roll.
4. Special Dice Powers & Risks
In addition to standard numerical movement dice, special utility dice can be discovered:
- Certain dice offer defensive functions (such as temporary hiding or distracting approaching threats).
- However, as the official store page notes, “nothing comes without risk”. Misusing a special die can attract unwanted attention or consume valuable inventory capacity.
- Reserve utility dice for emergencies when a hunting creature corners a teammate.
5. Team Survival & Downed Recovery
- The demo supports up to 4 players in online co-op (the full Early Access release will expand this to 6 players). Compare party dynamics in our Invokyr Multiplayer Guide.
- When an entity strikes a player, they enter an incapacitated state rather than suffering an immediate game-over (“Death is not always the end”).
- Coordinate immediate revival attempts before the hunting entity returns to patrol the sector.
What Is Not in the Demo
To clear up common misconceptions circulating online:
- There are no colored “green/red board tiles” that automatically heal players or trigger card mini-games.
- Movement is continuous 3D first-person navigation, not turn-based grid stepping.
- Extraction does not rely on calling a helicopter or drop-ship beacon; escape is unlocked exclusively by navigating the board to its end.
